Research Interests: Critical Race Theory (specifically anti-racism and white privilege), Queer Theory, anti-oppressive parenting/edcucation practices, the public education system, childbirth and the postpartum period

Snapshot: Joy's academic career has included studying abroad in Cape Town, South Africa while facilitating a year-long community-based learning project, "Photography, Literacy and Dialogue," with high schools in Seattle and Cape Town.
